Today was a day which many of us were looking forward to. To find out why, please read on (:
A jam packed day with a lot of things to do, it was very important to stick to the schedule. Documentation, building and lessons went on as usual.
As for hygiene lessons, 2 groups went out to take shifts and teach (as there were no English lessons) and it was interesting to hear that new teaching methods were tried out. This is really helpful as we can bring about more experiences and feedback for future groups (: We also had a lot of fun looking at the students draw their future dream homes with clean latrines.
Documentation for our group was quite interesting. One of the groups went out to start the building of the jumbo jars from scratch. It was really hard labour and we began to appreciate the hard work which many of the workers put in. it was also quite enriching for us as we feel a bit more knowledgeable about how basic structures are built from cement, sand and stone. Unfortunately, there was a small mix-up and we had to halt our progress as we realized that we were building for a family that has opted out last minute, but nevertheless, the materials had been sent there by mistake, causing the confusion. In any case, we pressed on (: and we took apart the foundation so that it can be moved to the next house. Whatever problems that will come in the future, we must always look back at our purpose of coming here and we must press on!
As part of the schedule, we decided that by hook or by crook, we had to brush up on our dancing “SKILLZ” for the performance which we are going to put up for the school. We are glad to say that it went well for everyone and many of us had fun dancing and looking at our friends dance (: (and laughing a lot too!)
We arrived at the hotel and most of us were overjoyed when we saw the awesome facilities which were present in the hotel. The rooms were splendid and the sight of a toilet for each of us and a television (with soccer matches for some) was one which many have been longing for. Looking back, one of the reasons we are having this R&R session is to relax and recharge ourselves after a week of work. And true enough, we were glad that the guest house had just what we wanted (:
Dinner was interesting. To many of us this was the first time we did not have to cook our dinner and in fact it was good to have well cooked rice for a change :D The food was so good that there were many members who ordered extra portions! (thai food in Cambodia is actually very nice !) Most of us had western food and it was just what we needed after a day of hard of work. It was fun to sit down, eat with our friends (for 2 hours XD) and enjoy the candle light dinner (without any flies for the first time!).
Now the team is having fun watching TV together and playing games to end off the day in a fun way (: we hope that this break will recharge our batteries so we are hyped up and ready to go on for the next week ahead. Though it is quite sad that half the trip has already ended, we are glad that there is still a few more days for us to put in our best so that we can make a difference (:
